TITLE: YouthBuild Tutor
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A thorough knowledge of math (algebra and geometry) or reading skills.
- Ability to present information from a variety of perspectives and thought processes to aid the youth in understanding the material.
- A desire to help young people who have not had consistent support pursuing their educational goals.
- Ability to understand the lives & barriers young people face.
- Must be flexible, patient, non-judgmental, supportive, respectful, creative, and show initiative.
- Must have a sense of teamwork, and excellent communication skills.
- Must possess awareness and sensitivity towards different cultural backgrounds, as well as enjoy working with diverse people.
- Must understand the importance of boundaries and agree to abide by the CYS code of confidentiality.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Meet with youth one on one, in small groups, or as part of a team-teaching approach to tutor on needed school subjects.
TIME AND COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
- Minimum of 2-4 hours a week, at least once a week. We have opportunities for up to 40 hours each week between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00pm. Actual times will be determined by youth’s availability.
- This volunteer position may be intermittent depending on the number of youth in need of tutoring or the time in the school year.
- In order for the youth to get the most benefit from the tutor/student relationship, a commitment to finish out a school year is preferred.
