The Young Adult Housing Program is a comprehensive program for young adults and families in Thurston County, Washington State, ages 18-24, who are experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence , exiting an institution or have been in the state foster care system. Our role is to provide safe and stable housing for young adults and families who are facing challenges, along with support, advocacy and guidance in helping them achieve their goals.

*Please note that we cannot provide immediate or emergency housing to Young Adult Housing applicants. We encourage any young adults to apply and be placed on our waiting list. Realistically, and on average, a housing applicant’s wait time can range anywhere from four to eight months. Please see this list of emergency shelter options if you’re needing emergency housing.

Program Goals
  • Self-sufficiency through increased financial responsibility
  • Completion of basic education if needed
  • Increased self-esteem and permanent connections
  • Developed independent living skills
  • Exit successfully to permanent housing

This is a support program which makes it possible for participants to work on their goals, complete their education, and find employment. Program participants, when working, are required to pay thirty percent of their monthly income for rent. Half of that amount is saved and reimbursed to the participant when they successfully completes and graduates from the program. We also provide ongoing workshops and service learning opportunities in an effort to support continuing education and community involvement.

Where do Young Adult Housing participants live?

Community Youth Services maintains a number of housing sites throughout the community. We do our best to match each person with the right living situation. Residents can stay in the program from 18 months to 2 years. This depends on the program, the requirements of their lease, and their active involvement in working towards and reaching their individual goals.
