Behavioral Health and Wellness

As a licensed behavioral health provider, CYS offers a continuum of co-occurring behavioral health and substance use (SUD) services aimed at helping transitional age youth age 12-24 in Thurston and Mason Counties during their journey to adulthood. The Integrated Counseling Division (ICD) houses the Multisystemic Therapy (MST) program and Transitional Age Youth (TAY) support program, both of which offer Wraparound with Intensive Services (WISe) to higher needs individuals. Wraparound with Intensive (WISe) provides systems-based care coordination through a team process that is driven by the youth. Wraparound is especially helpful for youth involved in multiple systems, require assistance meeting their basic needs or have multiple providers.

MST is an evidence-based practice with over 30 years and 18 studies of research that shows it is effective with providing an intensive home-and-community based treatment to help families reduce acting out behaviors, keep youth in the home and attending school, and decrease risk for arrest or getting into trouble. MST is a 3-5 month co-occurring treatment that is recognized by 24 groups worldwide, including SAMHSA, NIDA, CSAP, and CSAT. To qualify for MST youth must be experiencing troubles in two more of the following areas; Family Conflicts, School, Juvenile Justice, Mental Health, Child Welfare (including families involved with CPS).

TAY is a program for emerging adults ages 15-24. Here, we elevate youth to be active agents in their own mental health and prepare for the transition to independence. TAY offers counseling when and where a youth needs it. We work with youth to create a plan that will help them to stabilize and achieve their goals. Treatment is outcome-based, individualized and adaptable to meet their specific needs while also being informed by the research on the most effective interventions. TAY offers a treatment team approach for those in need of more intensive services. Youth with multiple systems involvement benefit from care coordination that helps navigate needs and work towards youth-inspired outcomes. Peer counseling supports youth and families with new skills learned in therapy to overcome barriers and maintain recovery.
