The Bridge is a Hip-Hop songwriting workshop held by Community Youth Services for youth between the ages of 14 and 19. Over the course of eight weeks participants will learn how to write, produce, and perform their own original Hip-Hop song.
Each week participants will work to complete songs with guidance of experienced rappers/artist.
Guest artist will speak to the class and share their experience as songwriters.
We will participate in trust building exercises with the help of trained instructors throughout the program.
Our final week participants will record their song at a professional recording studio.
Participants will receive a copy of their song and a performance mix.
Youth will participate in a final performance “Showcase” of their song. Each youth will participate in helping to promote their event.
The Bridge is an eight week commitment. In order for The Bridge to be successful it is important every that participant show up to all sessions.
The Bridge also facilitates weekly writing workshops at The Thurston County Juvenile Detention Center. Youth are provided with a safe space to express themselves and are encouraged to use writing as to tool to deal with life’s challenges.
The founding principal behind this program is self-understanding. We believe through giving youth an outlet to better express and understand themselves this awareness will transfer to other aspects of their life such as school and peer interactions. We promote teamwork by having our youth work in a collaborative environment where students are encouraged to work together and share ideas. We also fill a much-needed gap in our community of extracurricular activities involving music.
