Young Adult Shelter

Young Adult Shelter (YAS) is a nightly emergency shelter for people between the ages of 18-24. We are a safe, youth and young adult space for folks experiencing homelessness to have a warm place to sleep any night of the year. In order to access YAS, a person must have a form of identification and not have a Level 2 or 3 RSO status. ID can be any document (birth certificate, court, medical or school records or driver’s license) that states a person’s age. YAS is a safe space for all genders.

Services Offered

YAS provides showers, hygiene supplies, and a light snack at night. Two staff members are there each night to make sure the space is safe and to have someone to talk to, if there is need. Case Management and other services are not offered during shelter hours, but are available Monday – Friday at Rosie’s Place.

Location and Hours:

We are located on the second floor of Brighter Futures Youth Center, 520 Pear Street SE on the corner of Pear St and Legion Way. (One block east of Jack in the Box)

7 days per week - 9:00pm – 6:30am

How and When to sign up for a bed

There are 10 beds per night at YAS, and 2 emergency beds. During Cold Weather nights, YAS can have up to 15 people. In order to sign up for a bed, you must complete an intake. These intakes are generally completed during the day at Rosie’s Place. You can stop by Rosie’s and any staff member can help you through filling out those forms.

Each day, Monday-Friday, you can sign up for a bed at Rosie’s Place. Beds are assigned by lottery. On regular weather nights, the first 10 names will be pulled and given beds. The remaining names will go on the wait list.

Arrive at YAS NO EARLIER than 8:45 pm in order to access shelter.

Between 9 pm-9:15 pm, staff will admit the first 10 names on the list.

9:15 pm – Waitlist folks are given a bed if there is room

9:30 pm – if the two emergency have not been given away, they are released to waitlist folks and walk-ups

Lights on happens at 5:50 am

All folks leave by 6:30 am
